The work of the great choreographer Marius Petipa determined the development of Russian and world ballet not only in the second half of the nineteenth century but also had a significant impact on the choreographic art of our time. His productions such as Pharaoh's Daughter, Paquita, Corsair, La Bayadere, Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake and Raymonda now form the basis of the repertoire of the world's largest ballet companies. And although the main masterpieces were created by the choreographer in Petersburg, important pages of the master's work are connected with Moscow. It was here that the famous ballet "Don Quixote" by Ludwig Minkus (1869) first appeared, later transferred to the St. Petersburg scene;  ballet "Trilby" was also staged here for the first time. In Moscow, one-act ballets "Night and Day" and "Pearl", intended for display at the coronation ceremonies of Alexander III (1883) and Nicholas II (1896), saw the light of the ramp for the first time.
