Martins Ozolins (Conductor)

Mārtiņš Ozoliņš has been the Chief Conductor of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet since 2013 and an Associate Professor as well as the Head of the Department of Orchestra Conducting at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. He debuted at the opera in 2003 conducting Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Nabucco. He is the winner of the prestigious IV International Jorma Panula Conducting Competition.

Mārtiņš Ozoliņš has led many performances of ballets and operas, gala concerts and choral symphonies, and been the Music Director for most of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet’s new productions and renewals of previous work.

The conductor has collaborated with many international orchestras: the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi in Trieste, the Catania Teatro Massimo Bellini Opera Orchestra, Nuova Orchestra Scarlatti, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, and the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra among others. He has performed and conducted guest performances in Moscow, Tampere, Leipzig, Saint Petersburg, Mexico, Trieste, Catania, Muscat and other cities.

During the 2017/2018 season Ozoliņš was the Guest Director at two of China’s largest theatres in Tianjin and Harbin with Giuseppe Verdi’s opera La traviata.

During the 2018/2019 season Ozoliņš conducted several operas, like Richard Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer, Francis Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites, and was a Guest Director in Hong Kong with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Don Juan. He attended the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago in Italy, where he conducted Giacomo Puccini’s operas Turandot and Manon Lescaut.
