Stefano Montanari (Conductor)

Graduated cum laude in Violin and Piano, Stefano Montanari then specialized with Pier Narciso Masi in Florence and Carlo Chiarappa in Lugano.

From 1995 to 2012, he is the first violin at the Accademia Bizantina in Ravenna ensemble focused in early music, with which he regularly performed in tour all over the world. M° Montanari teaches Baroque Violin at both the International Academy of Music Claudio Abbado in Milan and he recently wrote his "Metodo di violino barocco" published by Carisch. Stefano Montanari is Principal Director of the "Jugendspodium Dresden-Venice" project. M° Montanari conducted Vivaldi's Four Seasons with the Baroque Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, for a Christmas concert in 2007 and for a gala in honor of the 150th anniversary of Italy's unification, events that were both live broadcast on national television. Stefano Montanari is now much in demand as a conductor with both modern and period orchestras, being also active as one of the best baroque violin virtuosos of his generation. He is regular guest conductor in important theatres such as: Donizetti in Bergamo (La Cecchina by Piccinni, Così fan tutte by Mozart, Don Gregorio, L'elisir d'amore and Don Pasquale by Donizetti), La Fenice in Venice (Four Seasons by Vivaldi; Bach Mass in B minor, Così fan tutte by Mozart, L'inganno felice and La cambiale di matrimonio by Rossini, L'elisir d'amore by Donizetti, symphonic concerts, Cavalli's L'Eritrea at Ca' Pesaro, Caldara's Dafne at Palazzo Ducale) at the Opera in Lyon (the Mozart-da Ponte Trylogy Die Zauberflöte, Carmen, Le comte Ory). Then he conducted Il barbiere di Siviglia in Palermo and Rome, Don Pasquale in Novara, L'elisir d'amore in Lucca, Semiramide riconosciuta by Porpora in Beaune, Don Giovanni in Toronto, Dido and Aeneas by Purcell, Rossini's Stabat Mater and Casanova Remix in Verona, Così fan tutte at the Bol'šoj in Moscow. 2015 season is marked by important engagements: he conducted the new production of Viaggio a Reims in Amsterdam; and Il barbiere di Siviglia (Teatro Filarmonico) and Don Giovanni (Arena) in Verona; Dido and Aeneas in Florence; Le Nozze di Figaro for OperaLombardia circuit (Italy).

Besides his career as conductor and violinist, he leads an intense activity as harpsichord and fortepiano conductor and accompanist, M° Montanari regularly collaborates and records with jazz saxophonist, clarinetist and composer Gianluigi Trovesi.
