Terem Quartet (Orchestra)

The "Terem-Quartet" is a unique ensemble that raised the significance of Russian folk instruments to an unprecedented height. Stunning virtuosity, amazing teamwork, fantastic artistry, original arrangements made the ensemble unusually popular in Russia and one of the brands of modern Russian culture abroad, the country's music ambassador in the world.

The students of the Leningrad Conservatory Andrei Smirnov (bayan), Andrey Konstantinov (domra small), Igor Ponomarenko (domra-alt), Mikhail Dzyudze (balalaika-double bass) founded the "Tower-quartet". The date of the first concert is considered to be the birthday of the collective: November 26, 1986. Over the years, there has been only one change in the team: in 2000, Igor Ponomarenko was replaced by Alexei Barshchev.

The repertoire of Terem includes over 200 compositions. This is the original processing of classical works (Vivaldi, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin, Rossini, Bizet, Gershwin, Poulenc, Vil Lobos, Glinka, Dargomyzhsky, Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Schnittke, Shchedrin), folklore of different peoples, modern melodies , Cinemonies (A.Piatsolla, N.Rota, Ch.Chaplin, F.Ley, M.Legan, A.Petrov, I.Shvarts, M.Tariverdiyev, G.Gladkov and others, songs of Russian and foreign composers), and Also a lot of plays that arose as a result of the collective creativity of all the ensemble members (it was not by chance at the concert They often announce: "The composer Terem-Quartet"). According to critics, the ensemble created its unique "Terem-style", in which classical and folklore, jazz and popular music, academic and democratic, classy brilliance and subtle humor, theatricality and improvisation are organically combined.

Over its more than 20 years of activity, Terem-Quartet has given over 2,500 concerts (the 1000th was played in 1994, 2000 in 2004), visited dozens of Russian cities, performed in 57 countries (in t Where Russian musicians were very rare or never visited Cuba, Panama, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, New Zealand, North Korea ...). They were applauded by presidents and prime ministers, kings and princes, emirs and sultans ... The collective played at concerts in the Kremlin and at the G-8 summit, on the ruins of the Berlin Wall and at the Vatican, before Pope John Paul II and Mother Theresa.

"Terem-Quartet" - participant of many festivals, and not only musical (in Hamburg, Berlin, Dresden, Nantes, Edinburgh, Prague, Austria, Ireland, Canada, Finland, South Korea, "Arts Square" and "Stars of the White Nights" in St. Petersburg, "Slavonic Bazaar", "Kinotavr", "Moscow Film Festival, etc.). The team released 18 CDs, received a huge number of awards and titles, repeatedly became a laureate of Russian and international awards, including. "Golden Ostap", "Golden Soffit", was named the "Collective of the Year" by the rating of the newspaper "Musical review" (1997), participated in movies and theater performances, numerous TV and radio programs in Russia and other countries.

The ensemble took an active part in the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Pushkin and the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg, the 3000th anniversary of Jerusalem, the 1000th anniversary of Tallinn and Kazan, the cultural program of the 25th Olympic Games in Barcelona, ​​the World Expo -2000 "in Hanover.

On May 14, 2009, the "Terem-Quartet" opened the final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow.

The outstanding musicians of different styles and directions cooperate with the ensemble: pianists D. Matsuev and A. Goribol, violinists D. Schwartzberg and N. Kennedy, cellist B. Strulev, singers Y. Ivanilov and V.Chernov, saxophonist I. Butman, clarinetist M . Portal, horn player A. Shilkloper, accordionist R. Galliano, ethno-rock musician P. Gabriel, famous ensembles and orchestras. Many of them were participants of the "Terem Festival of World Music", which is held every year in St. Petersburg in the autumn, starting in 2003. One of the most memorable projects of the "Terem Quartet" of recent years was the joint program "The Ball-Masquerade" with the orchestra " Virtuosos of Moscow "(2006).

Throughout his creative activity, "Terem-Quartet" performs with charity concerts in favor of people with disabilities, children, veterans of the stage. Musicians constantly support various Funds, talented young musicians (one of the last projects is the holding of the children's competition "TeremOK!" In St. Petersburg).
