In the Night is a ballet made by New York City Ballet balletmaster Jerome Robbins to solo piano music of Chopin.
Robbins made the other ballets to Chopin's music: The Concert, 1956; Other Dances, 1976.
Creations of the outstanding American choreographer Jerome Robbins are considered one of the milestones in the history of ballet in the second half of the XX century. We’ve chosen three one-act ballets to the music of Frederic Chopin from the choreographer’s rich creative heritage, which includes not only the classical choreography, but also numerous works in the Broadway musicals and on screen.
«In the Night» is a series of poetic sketches, inspired by Chopin’s nocturnes. «Other Dances» has additional interest for the Russian audience due to the fact that they were created for the world-famous Russian dancers Natalia Makarova and Mikhail Baryshnikov. «The Concert» is a number of comic scenes from the life of music lovers. All three ballets can be frequently found in the playbills of the world’s leading companies, but for the first time ever the Moscow theatre includes them in its repertoire.
