Schedule for Grand Symphony Orchestra named after Peter Tchaikovsky “Great Russian Ballet Music” 2022

The State Academic Grand Symphony Orchestra named after P. I. Tchaikovsky (originally the Grand Symphony Orchestra of All-Union Radio and Central Television) was founded in 1930 as the first symphony orchestra of the Soviet Union. It has repeatedly proved its right to be called one of the world’s best orchestras. This title was won through the history, thorough work with microphones and intensive concert agenda. It comes as no surprise that the Grand Symphony Orchestra was entrusted with the performance of music written by N. Myaskovsky, S. Prokofiev, A. Khachaturian, G. Sviridov, D. Shostakovich, P. Tchaikovsky. Since 1974 to this day, its artistic director and principal conductor has been Vladimir Fedoseev.

The program of Grand Symphony Orchestra was extremely diverse in the season 2016/2017. In September, the Orchestra performed a program dedicated to 125th anniversary of S. Prokofiev and the 110th anniversary of Shostakovich. In October and November, the Orchestra had a big tour to the UK and China. In December, the Orchestra performed concerts of G. Verdi’s Requiem and Gounod’s Faust. In March, it performed the European Premiere of Tchaikovsky’s reconstructed opera “Undine” in the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein. In the 2016/2017 season, besides European and Asian tours, the Orchestra also toured and performed in the Russian cities of Stavropol, Kazan, Kaliningrad, Voronezh, Lipetsk, Tula, Dzerzhinsk, Omsk and Klin. A dedicated concert series is held in the Kremlin Palace. Its opening in August 2016 was dedicated to Russian cinema music.

Denis Lotoev has been successfully cooperating with the Tchaikovsky Grand Symphony Orchestra for over twenty years. The first performance with the orchestra was in 1996, when he was the conductor of the St. Petersburg Glinka State Academic Capella Symphony Orchestra and St. Petersburg State Academic Symphony Orchestra. Since 2000, Denis Lotoev has been an assistant to Artistic Director and Chief Conductor Vladimir Fedoseyev, and since 2009, he has the conductor of this celebrated collective.

During his work with the Grand Symphony Orchestra, D. Lotoev implemented a number of his own projects presented on national and international stages. The conductor has collaborated with famous soloists, such as Denis Matsuev, Vadim Repin, Maxim Vengerov, Andrey Gavrilov, Alena Baeva, Pepe Romero, Daniel Müller-Schott, Maxim Fedotov, Denis Shapovalov, Ekaterina Mechetina, Alexander Buzlov, Dmitry Illarionov. He has toured with the Grand Symphonic Orchestra around Russia and abroad: the UK, Italy, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Uruguay. In 2016, D. Lotoev performed with the Grand Symphony Orchestra in Guildford, Birmingham, Swansea, Canterbury, Watford, Coventry, Sheffield, Carlisle and other UK cities. The Russian and foreign media have described him as a worthy professional with unconventional thinking, bright interpreter, who is able to inspire listeners with heartfelt emotion and freshness in the music score reading.
