The Dominant is one of the most brilliant string quartets to have emerged in Russia in recent years. They play with passion, precision and tenderness, guided always by fidelity to the composer’s intentions.
The Quartet was founded in 1995, and one year later was awarded the Grand Prix at the Shostakovich International Quartet Competition in St Petersburg. They have received a number of scholarships and prizes since then and have toured widely in Russia and to Spain, Italy, Germany, France, Finland, the Netherlands and Japan, as well as the UK. Their recordings include works by Schubert, Shostakovich and Vaynberg.
