After seeing Dmitry Bryantsev's "Illusive Ball", the new director of the Music Theatre's ballet company, Laurent Hilaire, said that this production had absolutely to return into the repertory. His decision was unanimously supported by the artists. In this work, Dmitry Bryantsev admiringly pays homage to Romantic ballet. This is the style of Taglioni, seen through the lense of Fokine's stylisation and breathing the spirit of modernity.
"Lonesome George" was named after the giant tortoise who died on the Galápagos Islands in 2012, aged 100. "Loneliness is the principal tragedy of humanity, it can be realised and lived through in expressive dance. I feel that the body is a jail: the inability to transcend our bodies is the starting point where despair in my moves begins", says Marco Goecke about his work.
The sound track for "Minus 16" consists of a wide range of musical compositions from mambo and techno to traditional music from Israel. In his work Ohad Naharin uses dance improvisation and "Gaga", the choreographic language that made him famous.
