A graduate of the faculty of Chorus Conducting of the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory (Professor S. Kazansky’s class).
In 1988 – 2002 he was the Chorus Artistic Director and Chief Chorus Master of the Bolshoi Theatre. He led and prepared the Bolshoi Theatre Chorus for the performances of about 50 operas, cantatas and oratorios of Russian and foreign composers. He has done almost the entire Bolshoi opera repertoire, Verdi’s “Requiem”, Rachmaninov’s “Spring” cantata and “The Bells” choral symphony, Prokofiev’s “Alexander Nevsky” cantata and “Ivan The Terrible” oratorio, Tchaikovsky’s “Moscow”cantata. He revived the tradition of Russian Orthodox singing in the Bolshoi Theatre producing works of Rachmaninov, Tchesnokov, Bortnyansky and Grechaninov.
When in the Bolshoi Theatre he has done co-productions with European symphony orchestras, e.g. the Berlin Symphony orchestra. He worked on the production of Shchedrin’s opera “Dead Souls” in Boston, USA.
In June 2005 Mr. Lykov took up the position of Chief Chorus Master of the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre. Since then he has worked together with conductors of the theatre on all the new opera productions and concerts. He has prepared the Stanislavsky chorus for the concert performance of “Fidelio” by L. van Beethoven, the world premiere of “Passazhirka” (“The Passenger”) by M. Weinberg and the concert program which included Beethoven’s 9th Symphony and “Polovetsian Dances” by A. Borodin.
Since 1995 he has been Professor and teacher at the Chorus Conducting Faculty of the Moscow Conservatory.
