Alexei Bogorad (Conductor)

Born in Moscow in 1979. After graduating Central Music School, he studied at the Moscow State Conservatoire as a clarinetist. He has won a number of international clarinet competitions. Has performed as chamber musician and soloist.
In 1997-2010 he was a principal clarinetist of the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra.
In 2001-11 he also was a soloist of the Russian National Orchestra.

As orchestra soloist he has played under the baton of conductors such as Mstislav Rostropovich, Evgeny Svetlanov, Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Valery Gergiev, Yuri Temirkanov, Paavo Berglund, Zubin Mehta, Charles Dutoit, Michel Plasson, Mikhail Pletnev; and has shared the stage with such notable performers as Martha Argerich, Vadim Repin, Yefim Bronfman, Nikolai Lugansky, Maxim Vengerov, and others.

Since 2004 he studied conducting with Professor Fuat Mansurov at the Kazan State Conservatoire. In 2009 he graduated with honors from the Moscow Tchaikovsky State Conservatoire where he studied with Professor Gennady Rozhdestvensky.
Recipient of a fellowship from the American Academy of Conducting at the Aspen Music Festival (USA).
A laureate of International Stefan Turchak Conducting Competition (2010) and International Competition of Young Conductors Lovro von Mataиiж (2011).

Chosen by Vladimir Jurowski as his assistant at the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia (Svetlanov Symphony Orchestra), he made his debut with the Orchestra in 2011. He has conducted major Russian symphony orchestras, among them Russian National Orchestra, National Philharmonic of Russia, Svetlanov Symphony Orchestra, Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra , Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra.

In 2011 he auditioned for the Bolshoi Theatre and became a resident conductor of the Company.

His repertoire includes operas “May Night”, “Wozzeck”, “Don Giovanni”, “Ruslan and Ludmila”, “The Queen of Spades”, “Eugene Onegin”, “The Fiery Angel”, “Tosca”, “Madama Butterfly”, “La Boheme”, “Der fliegende Hollдnder”, “Faust”, “Iolanta”, “The Tsar’s bride”; and ballets “Romeo and Juliet”, “Giselle”, “Swan lake”, “Nutcracker” and others.

He collaborated as guest conductor with various Russian opera companies.
Recently he made his debuts at Prague National Theatre and Teatro San Carlo (Naples).
