Peter Feranec (Music Director)

St.Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra – Chief Conductor and Music Director Czech Chamber Philharmony Orchestra Pardubice - Chief Conductor and Music Director

Peter Feranec was born in 1964 in Bratislava - former Czechoslovakia In 1985 after graduating from the Bratislava Academy of Music, he attended the Bartok International Festival and Seminar (1985-1987) with Professor P. Eotvos and conducted contemporary music. The same year, he began five years studies, a scholarship from the Russian Ministry of Culture, at the State Conservatory in St.Petersburg (former Leningrad) under M. Jansons (graduated in 1990)

1991 - conductor of the Slovak National Opera House in Bratislava. He was 25 and finalist of International Competition in Tokyo (1991) and Budapest (1992) and gold medal winner of the 1992 Forum of Young Artists competition in Vienna. 

1993 - conductor at the Vienna Chamber Opera, main conductor Mozart operas

1992 – 1993 Le Nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni at the Vienna Festival Mozart Schönbrunn Vienna 

1995 – Chief Conductor at the Bolshoi Theatre Moscow, leading an original-language production of Le Nozze di Figaro (with Prof. J.Herz as stage  director). This epochmaking production for the Bolshoi, which is in the midst of revolutionary changes reflecting the new democratic Russia, featured foreign guest artist and attracted widespread attention from the international music community. Peter's role in this production led to his appointment as Lazarev`s successor, making him the first foreign-born principal conductor (also the youngest one).

Already the first year in this position brought two very successful tours, in USA (18 concerts with Bolshoi Symphony Orchestra) and in Europe (23 concerts), tour in Japan (E. Onegin, B. Godunov, Prince Igor).

At the Bolshoi he led various new productions: Lucia di LammermoorLa BohemeLa Traviata (Season 1995/96), Pique DameAida (1996/97), Love for three Oranges (1997/98) with Sir Peter Ustinov as stage-director and other 18 operatic tittles from Bolshoi repertoire. In 1997 he made another successful tour in USA       (25 concerts included Carnegie Hall ) and in UAE with Bolshoi Symphony Orchestra and the tour in Austria - Graz with B. GodunovPique Dame and Eugene Onegin.

2003 - debut at Zurich Opera House (Le Sacre du Printemps, Nussknacker, Cinderella, Schwanensee, Les Noces, Don Quixotte, Ein Sommernachtstraum,      Das schlaue Füchslein), London Philharmonia, Niederosterreich.Tonkünstlerorchester Vienna, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genova. 

2004 - debut at Frankfurt Opera House, Seoul Radio Orchestra, Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, Baden-Baden Opernhaus, Teatro Cagliari 

2005 - Music Director at National Opera House Ljubljana, Ludwigshaven Opera HouseRoyal Opera Stockholm, tour with National Theatre Prague to Japan.

2006-2007 concerts with Berlin Symphony Orchestra, new openings at Zürich Opera House (Don Quichotte), Stockholm (Traviata), at Ljubljana Opera House (Don Quichote) as well as at State Opera House Prague (Idomeneo), tours with Slovak Philharmonic to Germany, tour with Zurich Ballet to Athen as well as many symphonic concerts with Slovak Philharmonic, Radio Orchestra Prague, BSO Berlin, Orchestra of Ludwigshafen, Opera House Copenhagen.

2007 – Chief Conductor of Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra Bratislava.

2007 - 2008 season new concerts with Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, Czech Radio, Slovak Philharmonic, Danish Royal Opera House in Copenhagen ( Don Giovanni ), Estonian National Philharmonic Tallin ( Dvorak - Requiem ), Moscow Radio Orchestra ( Smetana - My Country ), Thessaloniki Symphony Orchestra, Czech National Opera House in Prague ( new production of Falstaff ), Slovenian National Opera Ljubljana      ( New production of  Carmen, Samson and Dalila ) and debut at the Bavarian State Opera House Munich ( E.Onegin, Un Ballo in Maschera ), tours with Slovak Philharmonic to Germany as well as tour to Japan with Czech National Opera.

2008-2009 season new productions of La Traviata and Macbeth at Bavarian State Opera in Munich, concerts with Israel Symphony orchestra, Athen Philharmonic, Slovak Philharmonic, Slovenian National Opera ( new production of Prince Igor ), Zurich Opera House ( Don Quichotte ) and Bolshoi Theatre Moscow ( Tosca, Turandot ). 

2009 - Chief Conductor and Music Director of the Mikhailovsky Theatre St.Petersburg. 

His first season in this position brought 3 new successful productions of Rusalka, La Juive by Halevy and Ballo in Maschera. For the very first time Mikhailovsky Theatre and his productions was nominated for the famous russian cultural prize The Golden Mask in various categories 27 times! Tour to Japan with Tosca and Onegin

2011 - Kata Kabanova, Carmen and Life with an idiot at Mikhailovsky Theatre, Boris Godunov in Santiago de Chile and concerts in Odense, Vienna, Vilnius, Prague and Trondheim, Tokyo and Osaka.

2012 - Chief Conductor at Brno National Opera House, new productions of Don Giovanni and Wunder der Heliane (Korngold), Boris Godunov at National Opera House Helsinki, various symphonic concerts in Tokyo, Shangai, Istanbul, St.Petersburg, tour with National Theatre Prague in Japan with Le Nozze di Figaro by Mozart

2013 - Chief Conductor of St.Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra and Czech Chamber Philharmony

2014 – Tour with Czech Chamber Orchestra to Estonia, Zurich Tonnhalle, Milan Sala di Verdi, Prague Spring Festival

Tour to Hongkong Festival with Mikhailovsky Theatre with Sleeping Beauty by Tchaikovsky

Debut with Moscow State Philharmonic (named after Svetlanov), another performances at Mikhailovsky Theatre, National Theatre Prague, Novaya Opera Moscow, Tokyo Opera – Norma

2015 – Tour with St.Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra to China,S.Korea, Belgium and Germany

Debut at Istanbul National Opera with Tales of Hoffmann by J.Offenbach and Gala Concerts, debut at Theatre Krasnojarsk and Sochi, concerts with Tokyo Symphony Orchestra

2016 – Debut with Opera Center of G.Vishnevskaya in Moscow with Tosca and Rigoletto, tour with the company to Summer Festival in Sochi with Iolanta and Gala Concerts

Debut at Theatre Erfurt Germany with E.Onegin, Final Concert of Russian Competition Great Voice at the TV Chanel 1, My Country cicle by B.Smetana with Tchaikovsky Orchestra Moscow

2017 – Debut at National Opera House Belles Artes in Mexico City with Gala Concerts

Symphonic concerts in Prague, Bratislava, Brno, Berlin – Radio Orchestra, Bucharest – Radio Orchestra, Moscow State Symphony,         

Peter conducts a lot of concerts, opera productions all over the world and takes part in many musical festivals, regularly guest conductor of many well known orchestras and opera companies.

2018 – Principal Guest Conductor of Mikhailovsky Theatre in St.Petersburg.

Opening performances of Iolanta by Tchaikovsky at Mikhailovsky as well as many repertoire performances and two symphonic concerts

Concerts with Macedonian National Philharmonic in Skopje, Romanian Bucharest Radio Orchestra, Moscow State Symphony Orchestra, Prague Philharmonic, Brno Philharmonic, Moscow Tchaikovsky Orchestra, St.Petersburg Philharmonic,
