Wolf Gorelik (Music Director)

Born in 1933 in Sverdlovsk region. Graduated from the Urals State Conservatoire in 1963 (studied opera and symphony conducting, teacher – professor M. Paverman, and violin, teacher - professor M. Zatulovski). From 1963-64 worked as conductor with the Symphony Orchestra of the Tomsk Philharmonic Society. In 1964-65 - with the Symphony Orchestra of the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Society and the Novosibirsk Opera. His first productions included "Evgeny Onegin" by P. I. Tchaikovsky and "Spartacus" by A. Khachaturian. In 1965-66 – conductor of the Sverdlovsk Opera. In 1966-67 – Chief Conductor of the Buryat Opera in Ulan-Ude. In 1967-73 – Chief Conductor of the Saratov Opera. Most important productions of that period included: "Evgeny Onegin", "The Queen of Spades" and "The Enchantress" by Tchaikovsky, "Boris Godunov" and "Khovanschina" by M. Musorgsky, "The Tsar’s Bride" by N. Rimsky-Korsakov, "Love for Three Oranges" and "The Duenna" by S. Prokofiev, "Aida" and "Rigoletto" by G. Verdi, "Tosca" and "La Boheme" by G. Puccini, "Pecheurs des Perles" by G. Bizet, "Gioconda" by A. Ponkielli. Since 1974 worked with the Moscow Operetta (appearing there till 1999). Since 1993 he has been a conductor of the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow academic Music Theater. Led the productions of "La Boheme" and "Tosca" by Puccini, "Ernani" by Verdi (awarded the "Golden Mask"/1996), "Daphne" by M. di Gagliano, "Kupriyanov and Natasha" by S. Kallosh, "L’Elisir d’Amore" by G. Donizetti, "Carmen" by Bizet, "Die Fledermaus" by I. Strauss, "Tosca" by Puccini; conducts the productions of "Ruslan and Ludmila" by M. Glinka, "The Queen of Spades", "Madama Butterfly" by Puccini, "La Dame aux Camelias" by G. Verdi – V. Korchagin.
In 1980-93 – Music Director of the GITIS Opera Studio (now – the Opera Studio of the Russian Academy of Theater Arts).
Since 1990 – Music Director of the East Ukrainian New Symphony Orchestra in Kharkov.
Tours: France, Corsica (1991-92, conducted the productions of "Don Giovanni" and "Cosi fan Tutte" at the Mozart Festival). Participated in the international tours of the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Theater (South Korea, 1997 and 2003; USA, 2002).
Recorded the works by B. Britten, S. Rakhmaninov, A. Schoenberg with the East Ukrainian New Symphony Orchestra (1993).
